The Faculty of Science is the cradle of content science teaching charged with the mission of producing high quality science educators and scientists to meet needs at home and beyond. The faculty endeavours to inculcate values of integrity, originality, self-supervision, community service and hard work among students and staff. It offers a broad range of science subjects taught in secondary schools across the country. The courses aim to provide students with content of science subjects to sharpen their theoretical and practical understanding of science subjects. The faculty has large laboratories and adequate equipment for students to pursue their programmes.

The faculty offers certificates, undergraduate and postgraduate courses via its three departments: Department of Physics, Mathematics, and Informatics, Department of Biological Sciences, and Department of Chemistry. The main undergraduate programme leads to the award of Bachelor of Science with Education (BScED). The postgraduate programmes offered by this faculty include Master of Science in Environmental Biology, Master of Science in Industrial Chemistry, and Master of Science with Education. Likewise, the faculty offers the non-degree programmes including Basic Technician Certificate in Educational Laboratory Science and Technology, Technician Certificate in Educational Laboratory Science and Technology, and Ordinary Diploma in Educational Laboratory Science and Technology.

The faculty, soon, will start offering high class non education programmes at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, to address challenges Tanzanians face in various fields including environment, health and agriculture.

The Faculty possess a rich array of experts in major scientific fields including, Separation Science (Capillary Electrophoresis), Aquatic/Geological/Atmospheric pollution, Organic synthesis, Natural products, Bioanalytical chemistry, Nanomaterials, Biodiversity/Conservation, Environment education/ Science [Chemistry, physics, Biology], Molecular/Cell biology, Parasitology, Botany, Ecology, Mathematical epidemeology, Mathematical ecological/ hydrological Modelling, Data assimilation Solar energy and microfluidic applications of biological molecules.
