DUCE Student Recognised for Innovative Schizophrenia Treatment Research

An undergraduate student from the Dar es Salaam University College of Education (DUCE), Mr. Anthony A. Tepeli, has earned national recognition after securing second place in the Best Undergraduate Innovation Project category during the closing ceremony of the 11th Research and Innovation Week organised by University of Dar es Salaam.

Mr. Tepeli received a trophy and a dummy cheque from Tanzania Commission for Science and Technology (COSTECH) in recognition of his outstanding research project titled “Computational Investigation of Xanomeline Analogues Targeting mAChR M1 for Schizophrenia Treatments.”

The project employed computational approaches to investigate potential drug candidates that target the muscarinic acetylcholine receptor M1 (mAChR M1), a promising therapeutic target for the treatment of schizophrenia. The study contributes to ongoing efforts to develop more effective and safer treatment options for individuals living with the disorder.

The recognition highlights DUCE’s commitment to promoting research, innovation, and scientific excellence among students. It also reflects the institution’s growing contribution to addressing societal challenges through evidence-based research and technological innovation.

DUCE congratulates Mr. Tepeli on this remarkable achievement and wishes him continued success in his academic and research endeavours.
