Dr. Alexander Songoro is a Lecturer in the Department of Geography and Economics at Dar es Salaam University College of Education (DUCE), a constituent college of the University of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania, East Africa. He hold a PhD in Human Geography from Justus Liebig University in Germany. He is both an academic and an experienced practitioner with extensive international experience, especially in integrating environmental and social considerations into development planning. For over eight years, he has served as STC - Social Development Consultant for the World Bank, contributing significantly to national and regional development efforts. These projects span sectors such as roads, energy, health, water, education, health, land administration, public-private partnerships, and fiscal governance.
His teaching and research interests cover a broad spectrum, including social, environmental, and strategic impact assessments (SIA, EIA, and SEA), population displacement, resettlement and land acquisition, social protection, disaster risk management, climate change, and biodiversity assessments. Dr. Songoro has played a key advisory role in aligning Tanzania’s National Strategic Projects with international standards, most notably the Tanzania Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) and the Higher Education for Economic Transformation (HEET) Project. His recent work includes climate change analysis in the Lake Victoria region of Tanzania and the preparation of major technical reports such as the Social Impact Assessment (SIA) Report and Action Plan for the HEET Project, and the Resettlement Action Plan (RAP) and Livelihood Restoration Plan for the 220 kV transmission line from Mwanza to Isaka, which aims to electrify the SGR Lot 5. Throughout his career, he has gained experience working with a wide range of stakeholders, including government departments, NGOs, CSOs, and development partners.

Dr. Songoro is participating on implementing a research project "Enhancing Climate Resilience of Maize Production through the Adoption of Available Climate-Smart Agricultural Technologies, Innovations, and Agronomic Practices in Semi-Arid and Highland Regions of Tanzania.
