Dr. Saumu Jumanne is a Lecturer in the Department of Geography and Economics within the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. She holds a PhD in Geography specializes in Human Geography. She completed her MA (Geography and Environmental Management-MA.GEM), and BSC. with Education (majoring Biology and Geography), all obtained from the University of Dar es Salaam. Her teaching areas are Biogeography, Agricultural Innovation and Food Security, Soil Resources, Pest Infestation, Control and Management, Physical Geography, Research Methods in Geography, Managing Hazardous Materials and Chemicals, Geography of Africa, and Natural Resource Management. Her research areas of interest center around agriculture-related issues, climate change, land use changes, gender, migration, rural development and environmental/natural resource management.
Dr. Saumu has been using her extra time mentoring youths, and sharing knowledge and expertise for over a decade in the Citizen on Sunday Newspaper (now an ePaper). She has provided readers with valuable insights on Geography, agriculture, climate change, education, women's empowerment, women's and children's rights, community development, environmental and natural resource management/conservation, and development-related issues in general. Sharing knowledge and expertise beyond academia reflects her commitment to public service and positively impacting society.
