Dr. Hija Alfani Urassa, (PhD) is an Assistant lecturer in the Department of History, Political Science and Development Studies within the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. She holds a PhD in Historical Sciences from the University of Cyril and Methodius in Trnava, Slovakia. She completed both her undergraduate and postgraduate studies at the University of Dar es Salaam. Her teaching areas include History of Tanzania, History of East Africa, Capitalism and Imperialism in the World History, Industrialization and Working Class in Britain, History of Disease, Health and Healing and History Research Methods and Techniques. Dr. Urassa’s research interests include Religion and Ethnicity in Africa, History of Islam in Tanzania, Contemporary Islamic Movements in Tanzania, as well as History of Disease, Health and Healing, more specifically on Leprosy and COVID-19.
