The Dar es Salaam University College of Education (DUCE), a Constituent College of the University of Dar es Salaam, invites applications for admission into PhD in African Languages (PhD AL) by Thesis; Master of Arts with Education (MA Ed); Master of Science with Education (MSc Ed); Master of Arts in Public Administration (MAPA) (Evening); Master of Education in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies (ME ELPS) (Regular and Blended), Master of Education in Curriculum Studies [MED(CS)] (Regular and Blended), Master of Science in Industrial Chemistry (MSc Ind Chem), Master of Arts in Development Evaluation (MADE) and Master of Science in Environmental Biology (MSc Env Biol) Degree Programmes, Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) (Evening and Blended) and Postgraduate Diploma in Guidance and Counselling (PGD-GC) (Regular and Blended) Programmes for the Academic Year 2026/2027.

1. PhD IN AFRICAN LANGUAGES DEGREE PROGRAMME Programme Structure
The PhD in African Languages (PhD AL) Programme is offered by Thesis (English or Kiswahili). Entry Requirements The potential candidates for PhD in African Languages by Thesis are those with relevant postgraduate degrees, namely an MA (African Languages), MA (Linguistics), MA (Kiswahili), MAED (Linguistics), MAED (Kiswahili), or MA (African Studies) with a major in linguistics from any recognised University, and with a minimum GPA of 3.5 at the Master’s degree level.
Duration: 36 months (Full time)

2. MASTER OF ARTS WITH EDUCATION DEGREE PROGRAMME Programme Structure
The Master of Arts with Education (MA (Ed)) Programme has six streams, namely; Linguistics, Geography, Kiswahili Literature, Kiswahili Linguistics, Literature and History.
Entry Requirements
(i) First degree in education Arts Subjects (e.g. BA (Ed), or BEd (Arts) from a recognised institution of higher learning with at least a lower-second-class of GPA not less than 2.7 or its equivalent. In order to take Language streams of the MA (Ed) programme one has to have studied any of the following in the undergraduate degree: Linguistics, Kiswahili, French, English and Literature. For Geography and History streams one has to have studied the particular subjects in the undergraduate degree. OR
(ii) BA (Kiswahili), BA (Language Studies), BA (English), BA (Geography and Environmental Studies), BA (French), BA (Literature) and BA (History) with GPA not less than 2.7 plus a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) from a recognised institution of higher learning 3 with at least an average pass of B in their final University Examination of the PGDE Programme.

3. MASTER OF SCIENCE WITH EDUCATION (CHEMISTRY, BIOLOGY AND MATHEMATICS STREAMS) DEGREE PROGRAMME Programme Structure
The MSc (Ed) is a 2 year taught programme comprising coursework and a dissertation. Coursework runs for a period of two semesters of 15 teaching weeks each, with a final examination at the end of each semester in the first year. The second year shall be devoted to research and writing the dissertation. During the second semester of the first year, students will be required to develop research proposals detailing the theoretical background and methodology, as a preparation for research and dissertation work.
Entry Requirements
(i) First degree in Education (e.g. BSc (Ed), BEd (Sc) from a recognized institution of higher learning with at least a lower second GPA of not less than 2.7 or its equivalent. In order to enrol in either of the streams, one must have studied the respective subject at the undergraduate level; OR
(ii) BSc with a Background in Chemistry, Biology or Mathematics plus a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) from a recognized institution of higher learning with at least an average pass of B in their final University Examination.

4. MASTER OF SCIENCE IN ENVIRONMENTAL BIOLOGY Programme structure
This is a two-year taught programme (24 months) comprising coursework and a dissertation. Coursework will run for two semesters of 15 teaching weeks each, with a final examination at the end of each semester. During the second semester of the first year, students will be required to develop research proposals detailing the theoretical background and methodology, as a preparation for research and dissertation work. The second year shall be devoted to research and writing the dissertation.
Entry Requirements
A candidate shall be a holder of:
(i) Bachelor degree majoring in Biology, Botany, Zoology, Environmental Sciences, and other related disciplines with at least a lower second-class degree of GPA not less than 3.0 from a recognized University; OR
(ii) Postgraduate Diploma with a Biology major from any recognised institution with at least an average pass of B in the final university examination.

6. MASTER OF ARTS IN PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION DEGREE PROGRAMME (EVENING)
Programme Structure
The MA (PA) is an evening-taught programme comprising coursework and a dissertation and the duration shall be twenty-four months (2 years). Coursework will run for a period of two semesters of 15 teaching weeks, with a final examination at the end of each semester. The second year shall be devoted to research and writing the dissertation. During the second semester of the first year, students will be required to develop research proposals as a preparation for research and dissertation work.
Entry Requirements
Applicants will be required to have at least a first degree in public administration, political science, education with majors in public administration and/or political science or any related fields from a recognized institution of higher learning with at least a lower second GPA of not less than 2.7 or its equivalent.

The ME-ELPS is a taught regular or online programme comprising coursework and a dissertation and the duration shall be eighteen months (1 year and six months) for full-time students. Coursework will run over a period of two semesters of 15 teaching weeks, with a final examination at the end of each semester. The last semester shall be devoted to research and writing the dissertation. During the second semester of the first year, students will be required to develop research proposals detailing the theoretical background and methodology, as a preparation for research and dissertation work.
Entry Qualification
A candidate shall be deemed eligible for consideration for admission into a Degree Programme if he/she has any of the following qualifications:
(i) Bachelor’s degree in education from any recognised university with at least a lower second GPA of not less than 2.7 or its equivalent.
(ii) Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) from any recognised institution with at least an average pass of B in the final university examination.

9. MASTER OF ARTS IN DEVELOPMENT EVALUATION DEGREE PROGRAMME
Programme Structure
The Master of Arts in Development Evaluation (MADE) is an eighteen (18) months taught programme comprising coursework and a dissertation. Coursework will run for a period of two semesters of the first twelve (12) months, comprising 15 teaching weeks and the final examination at the end of each semester. The last six (6) months shall be devoted to the research and writing of the dissertation.
Entry Qualification
Applicants will be required to have a Bachelor’s degree from a recognized institution of higher learning with a GPA of 2.7 and above.

10. POSTGRADUATE DIPLOMA IN EDUCATION PROGRAMME Programme Structure
The programme is offered blended with some face to face sessions and for evening mode hours from 5:00 pm as well as weekends (Saturdays). This Programme is aimed at those who intend to work or are already working in the education sector and wish to enhance their career prospects in the teaching profession. The programme provides a flexible route to earn a teaching profession qualification and allows candidates to combine work and study. The programme leads to certification in the teaching profession equivalent to a degree-level qualification in education.
Entry Qualification:
A first degree or advanced diploma in any field other than education from a recognised institution of higher learning. Candidates with a science background are highly encouraged to apply.

11. POSTGRADUATE DIPLOMA IN GUIDANCE AND COUNSELLING PROGRAMME
Programme Structure
Postgraduate Diploma in Guidance and Counselling (PGD-GC) is a taught regular or blended programme comprising coursework and counselling practicum. The programme duration is twelve months comprising coursework over a period of two semesters of 15 teaching weeks, with a final examination at the end of each semester. After successful completion of coursework, students shall embark on a two-month counselling practicum in designated institutions offering counselling services for practical training. This programme is aimed at candidates who intend to work or are already working in the counselling sector and wish to enhance their career prospects in the counselling profession.
Entry Requirements
A candidate shall be eligible for admission to a PGD-GC programme if he or she has the first degree without elements related to the counselling field of study from any recognised University or its equivalent.
