Uniting to End Violence: DUCE and U-Matter Tanzania Announce MoU for Child Protection and Psycho-Social Wellbeing

The Dar es Salaam University College of Education (DUCE) and U-Matter Tanzania have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on ending violence and fostering psychological well-being across local and global communities on June 15, 2026.

The partnership unites two complementary approaches to community safety and wellness:

  • DUCE’s Centre for Research on Child Protection and Violence Prevention (CPVP): Pioneers research in parenting and violence prevention. By uniting researchers and activists, CPVP develops local solutions that empower generations to reject violent norms and uphold human dignity.

  • U-Matter Tanzania: Utilises strength-based positive psychology to amplify joy, love, and gratitude. By cultivating “cultures of kindness" and "mattering,” the NGO builds pro-social protective factors that help individuals and families thrive.

To commemorate the signing, U-Matter founder Prof. Tony Ghaye delivered a seminar at DUCE titled, “No point sitting at the table if you're in the wrong room: The intersection of positive psychology, mattering and participatory design.” Together, the organizations will leverage their expertise to build a society where everyone can flourish in a safe, non-violent environment.

About the Partners

  • DUCE/CPVP: Focuses on mitigating all forms of violence through research, education, and the promotion of a non-violent culture.

  • U-Matter Tanzania (Reg: 00NGO/R/4236): Registered in 2022, the NGO champions individual and community psycho-social wellness through positive psychology, advocacy, and strength-based interventions.
