DUCE Hosts MUCE and Iringa Municipal Council Delegation on Benchmarking Visit

The Dar es Salaam University College of Education recently hosted a delegation from Mkwawa University College of Education and the Iringa Municipal Council during a benchmarking visit on 20th May 2026, aimed at learning about the management and operations of a demonstration school.

The visit focused on gaining practical insights into how DUCE runs its demonstration school as MUCE plans to establish a model school that will support teaching practice, educational research, innovation, and community engagement.

Speaking during the visit, the MUCE Principal, Prof. Method Samwel, noted that the benchmarking exercise was important in helping them understand the administrative structure, curriculum implementation, teaching methodologies, and the role of a demonstration school in teacher education. He explained that the planned model school will serve as a centre of excellence in teaching and learning while also providing student teachers with practical exposure.

During discussions with the delegation, DUCE Acting Principal, Prof. Amani Lusekelo, underscored the structure and growth of the College’s demonstration schools, which range from a day care centre to high school level. He also highlighted that the demonstration schools are among the best-performing schools in Dar es Salaam, reflecting DUCE’s commitment to quality education, innovation, and teacher preparation.

The Iringa Municipal councillors raised various questions that led to discussions on school governance, resource management, learner support services, and strategies for integrating innovation and technology into classroom instruction. The delegation also toured various demonstration school facilities and interacted with DUCE management, academic staff, and demonstration school personnel.

In addition, the delegation visited the Faculty of Education and Demonstration Schools pavilions during the ongoing Research Week exhibition, where they received a demonstration from Dr Subilaga Kejo on the Tucheze Pamoja project. The project emphasises the importance of play-based learning in children’s education by using games, interactive activities, and participatory teaching methods to enhance creativity, communication, problem-solving skills, and cognitive development among young learners. The visitors also witnessed various students’ innovations and research-based initiatives showcased at the pavilions, highlighting the role of creativity and innovation in enhancing teaching and learning.

The benchmarking visit marked an important step towards strengthening collaboration in advancing quality education, innovation, and effective teacher preparation in Tanzania.
