Biography

Dr. Batista Francis Mgumba is a lecturer in the Department of Educational Psychology and Curriculum Studies, Faculty of Education at the Dar es salaam University College of Education. He has a B.A in Education (UDSM);  M.A in Applied Social Psychology (UDSM) and PhD in Education (UDSM). Dr. Batista Francis Mgumba specializes in counselling (Educational and Rehabilitation counselling); special education and inclusive education. Dr. Mgumba has researched on: Availability of Educational and Health Support Services for Children with Disabilities in Tanzania Mainland and Zanzibar; Social-psychological Problems Facing Individuals with Visual Impairments and their Access to Appropriate Counselling Services; The Status of Counselling Services for Students with Visual Impairments in Tanzanian Universities; Reducing Barriers for Inclusion of Students with Visual Impairments in the Universities: and Promoting Support Services of Special Education Units for Enhancing Educational Achievements of Students with Disabilities in Tanzanian Universities. Dr. Mgumba is a member of the Tanzania League of the Blind, the status that has enabled him to work with this organization and the Federation of the Tanzania Disabled Persons Organizations (SHIVYAWATA) at various capacities and in different positions. Because of that, Dr. Mgumba has been facilitating and providing technical support in disability movements, national and international conferences.
