Prof. Florence Mushumbusi Kyaruzi - Director, Research and Innovation
Research and innovation are central to the mission of Dar es Salaam University College of Education (DUCE). Through the Directorate of Research and Innovation (DRI), the College is committed to advancing high-quality research that contributes to knowledge creation and addresses contemporary local, national, and global challenges. The Directorate coordinates research and innovation activities across DUCE’s three faculties: Faculty of Education, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, and the Faculty of Science.
The Directorate supports a vibrant research community of nearly 332 academic staff actively engaged in diverse research areas. Research activities at DUCE are guided by the University of Dar es Salaam Research Agenda and Vision 2061, which inspire scholars to conduct research that responds to societal needs. DUCE researchers have extensive experience in implementing multidisciplinary projects funded at local, national, and international levels.
Research activities are also coordinated through specialized centres, including: Research Centre for Child Protection and Violence Prevention (CPVP), Gender Research Centre (GRC), Centre for Social and Political Research (CSPR), and Centre for Research in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies (CRELP). These centres bring together experienced researchers with strong expertise in collaboration, project development, and multidisciplinary research.
The Directorate oversees the implementation of key research policies and guidelines, including: Research Policy and Operational Procedures, Entrepreneurship and Innovation Policy, Intellectual Property Policy, and Guidelines for Management of Externally Funded Research Projects. DUCE welcomes collaboration with local and international partners from academia, industry, government, and development organizations. We invite researchers and institutions to work with us in advancing impactful research and innovation for societal development.
