The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (FoHSS) has the largest student population among the three faculties of the College. The Faculty has about 4,000 students and 137 vibrant, focused academic staff. It envisions providing high-quality teaching, cutting-edge research, and community service in Tanzania and beyond. The Faculty offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses through its three departments: the Department of Geography and Economics, the Department of Languages and Literature, and the Department of History, Political Science, and Development Studies. The undergraduate programmes lead either to the award of Bachelor of Arts with Education (BAED) or Bachelor of Arts in Disaster Risk Management, which is a non-education programme. Courses offered under the BAED programme cover a broad range of subjects taught in secondary schools across the country
On the other hand, the faculty offers the following postgraduate programmes: the Master of Arts with Education, the Master of Arts in Development Evaluation, the Master of Arts in Public Administration, and the PhD in African Languages.
The Faculty also runs short courses, including Kiswahili for Foreigners Teaching Methods (Mbinu za Kufundisha Kiswahili kwa Wageni), an Intensive English Course, a French for Beginners Course, a Chinese Course, and a Geographical Information Systems (GIS) Course. All these courses help equip students and interested parties with experience-rich knowledge in areas beyond what is taught in schools.
