DUCE Management team participates in a strategic leadership workshop
The DUCE Management Team joined leaders from other University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) campuses for an induction workshop held at the Mwalimu Nyerere Leadership School in Kibaha from 2nd to 4th June 2025. The workshop was guided by the theme: Driving UDSM Excellence Through Strategic and Innovative Leadership.
In his official opening remarks, the Deputy Permanent Secretary of the President’s Office, Public Service Management and Good Governance, Mr. Xavier Daud urged staff to work diligently while remaining aligned with the government’s mission and vision. He emphasized the university’s responsibility to deliver quality education that produces competent and employable graduates. He also stressed the importance of adhering to training objectives, noting that effective leadership stems from proper training.
Throughout the workshop, UDSM leaders were equipped with valuable insights and skills in key areas such as efficient management, internationalization, marketing, customer experience, ICT, the HEET project, promotion of academic excellence, resource mobilization and financial sustainability. Other important topics included innovation and commercialization of research, emotional intelligence and government information security.
Before the closing session, UDSM Chancellor, Prof. William Anangisye highlighted the objectives of the training, emphasizing its role in fostering a spirit of unity and collaboration among staff across all campuses. He also expressed gratitude to the College Principal of the Mwalimu Nyerere Leadership School, Prof. Marcellina Chijoriga, for her generous support.
In her closing remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Carolyne Nombo, encouraged staff to continue adhering to public service rules and directives. She noted that the government is actively working to improve working conditions for employees as a means of boosting morale and providing better incentives. Additionally, she called on staff of higher learning institutions to support the newly introduced education policy, which aims to revamp the national education system by emphasizing practical skills, extending compulsory education, enhancing digital literacy, and aligning the system with global standards.
