DUCE staff joined other UDSM staff at Mwalimu Nyerere Campus to mark the International Women’s Day at institutional level. The event was held on 6th March 2019 at Nkrumah Hall, where gender equity and equality, success and challenge stories, were shared.

Presentations reflected on the role od the University to ensure gender equity and equality among its members and beyond. The Pincipal of Dar es Salaam University College of Education (DUCE), Prof. Bernadetha Killian, presented a paper about the role of Women in Leadership: challenges and success.

The Principal, Prof. Killian, urged women to be more vibrant and hard working, since success is not gender based.

‘Opportunities are open for all, if you have the qualificiations you simply make it, struggle harder, compete with confidence and don’t underestimate your own abilities,’ the Professor insisted.

The Ambassador of Norway to Tanzania, Her Excellence Elisabeth Jacobson, officiated at the event. Other officials present were; the Deputy Vice Chancellor Research and Knowledge Exchange, Prof. Cuthbert Kimambo; the Principal College of Humanities, Dr. Rose Upor; the Director of the Institute of Gender Studies at UDSM, Dr. Lulu Mahai, and the Coordinator of Gender Unit – DUCE wing, Dr. Ikupa Moses
